My Background
I graduated from Ferris State University with an English major, a triple minor in Advertising/Integrated Marketing Communications, English Professional Writing, and Creative Writing and a certification in Journalism. I am currently working as an editor for Prime Publishing, LLC, a lifestyles company which publishes food and crafting content. I am also a member of the English honor society, Sigma Tau Delta.
As a student at Ferris, I had the opportunity to learn a number of valuable skills relating to this industry. I have developed skills in editing and proofreading, meeting strict deadlines, and multitasking to name a few. I also oversaw the creation and management of the Ferris State Torch’s style guide. I consider myself highly organized and detail oriented.
I have the most experience in the area of editing and proofreading. I first gained editing experience proofreading essays, resumes, and other professional work beginning in High School. A large portion of my experience comes from my current position as the managing copy editor at the Ferris student newspaper. I also had an editing and reporting internship for the Daily Press, a local Upper Peninsula newspaper. In addition, I have worked occasionally as a freelance editor for The UpBeat Sports.
I have gained experience as a team player and leader through collaborative projects and while employed as an assistant manager at a hometown restaurant. My most recent position with Prime Publishing, LLC has given me the opportunity to participate in formal business meetings and to be a part of the office culture. This experience helped to expand my communication and interpersonal skills. I have also gained many new skills in content creation and editorial planning.
In my spare time, I am working as a freelance copy editor and pursing my dream of becoming a published poet.
